Reality-wise, work in it's greatest sense drains the juice out of you; and so to speak, the harsh environment of the call center industry is like one humongous sucking machine that could literally suck the life force out if one is not careful. It could endanger, cripple and compromise not only your physical health but also your mental, social and emotional health as well.
Talk about holistic approach. Working in call centers in the Philippines entails your brain working on maximum overdrive, hardcore processing of information, nonstop talking over a phone with someone who doesn't even give a damn if you have eaten or not. It necessitates one to be always alert and highly reactive. It means submitting yourself to a topsy-turvy sleeping pattern, rejection and stroke-inducing irate behavior from people who don’t even dwell on the same continent you are located. Harsh is most likely the right word to describe a call center environment. They say it is a jungle out there and indeed it is, a virtual jungle with monsters prowling behind shadows of the unknown. Hence to combat these stressors, we tend to resort to the easiest way out. The easiest releases like smoking our lungs out, after shift drinking with the hopes of alcohol knocking us off to sleep and overstuffing ourselves silly with food are probably not the best Not exactly a very healthy lifestyle is it? Amen to that. With all that said, I have had many positive experiences in the call center. Why? Because I have learned how to cope. Stay tuned for part 2.
So are we health and fitness later?
