Healthy tips for Philippines Call Center Agents - Part 2

In part one of this article, I talked about how working in a call center can create a lot of stresses on a person. And I don’t care if its an inbound call center or an outbound call center. I also promised to shed some light on ways to help you deal with the daily stresses of work. And especially the extra special stresses of the call center agent. So, let us try to figure out what seems so wrong about the situation. Yes, smoking is definitely wrong and not to mention dangerous. We all know it's not vogue, smoking kills. And imagine how bad it gets when you smoke more than 2 packs per day. And yes, Alcohol is good when taken moderately, but not when used as an alternative for a sleeping pill. And food, well food is nice, everybody agrees on that. But the debate is about, how can we restore equilibrium the healthiest way?

This is a tough question that requires a tough answer since we are currently living in a fast – paced environment that is hard to get used to sometimes. We must think otherwise that it's all about balance. So here, as promised, are the rules:

• Sleep whenever you have the opportunity,
• drink tons of water instead of soda for hydration,
• go for coffee to perk you up but do not abuse,
• try to wean down the number of cigarettes you consume a day,
• throw some punches and walk, walk, walk.
• And best of all, learn the art of meditation, be one with the universe.
• So easy to say isn't it, but so hard to do. Yes?

Healthy tips for Philippines Call Center Agents

Reality-wise, work in it's greatest sense drains the juice out of you; and so to speak, the harsh environment of the call center industry is like one humongous sucking machine that could literally suck the life force out if one is not careful. It could endanger, cripple and compromise not only your physical health but also your mental, social and emotional health as well.

Talk about holistic approach. Working in call centers in the Philippines entails your brain working on maximum overdrive, hardcore processing of information, nonstop talking over a phone with someone who doesn't even give a damn if you have eaten or not. It necessitates one to be always alert and highly reactive. It means submitting yourself to a topsy-turvy sleeping pattern, rejection and stroke-inducing irate behavior from people who don’t even dwell on the same continent you are located. Harsh is most likely the right word to describe a call center environment. They say it is a jungle out there and indeed it is, a virtual jungle with monsters prowling behind shadows of the unknown. Hence to combat these stressors, we tend to resort to the easiest way out. The easiest releases like smoking our lungs out, after shift drinking with the hopes of alcohol knocking us off to sleep and overstuffing ourselves silly with food are probably not the best Not exactly a very healthy lifestyle is it? Amen to that. With all that said, I have had many positive experiences in the call center. Why? Because I have learned how to cope. Stay tuned for part 2.

So are we health and fitness later?

Life working in a Philippine Call Center - Telemarketing Company

Did you ever wonder what it is like to work in a Philippine call center? In the last post I told my story about how I have become a call center agent who works in a Philippine telemarketing company. I also wanted to let people who are interested know that telemarketing is not the only call center job. It happens to be what I am good at and so I encourage you to try it but it’s not for everyone. A lot of my friends and even some of my colleges at the same call center work as customer service agents for inbound campaigns.

An inbound campaign is basically when the customer is the one who initiates the call. So instead of the call center dialing the customer does the dialing and calls in to get some question answered or get technical support or place an order.

Many of the people at my old company answered product support questions for a scooter company, the kind you kick, not the ones that use gas. People would call in and ask questions about the warranty and where they could get service if something went wrong. Believe it or not they even sold accessories. So my friends that didn’t want to do sales were very happy to be helping people and making sure that they enjoyed the product that they had purchased. So there are many answers to the question of what is it like to work in call centers in the Philippines.

Call Center Philippines

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work in a call center in the Philippines?

I used to think about it a lot. Many of my friends in college where getting jobs at call centers so I wanted to know what it is like. So like anything in life, there is only one way to find out, I dove in and started calling for telemarketing.

Many of my friends were working as inbound call center agents but I really wanted to try and see if I could survive selling products over the phone.

I got a job with a good call center and the pay was great for what I had made before in my life but the pressure was on to make sales everyday.

I actually found that I was really good at it. As the dialing computers hummed away, I waited for my customers to pick up their phones. My telemarketing campaign was actually a business to business sale so the trick was getting past the gate-keepers and getting to the person who actually had the power to make the decision. The more I worked at it and paid attention to my calls the more sales I was making. I was also getting a commission on each sale, plus a night differential for working the graveyard shift. So for me working in a Philippines call center isn’t a bad thing. I found something I am good at and I hope to become a team leader soon.

My first Call Center work

Working.... what a boring word for some but not for a first timer like me. Work means different for me if they say its BORING not for me for me work is Fun, Exciting, and above all enjoyable.

Do you have a lot of experiences in your life----working experiences? An experience is really important in our lives specially when it's really worthwhile it's because it will leave you a memory- nice and worth that you may share in your loved ones. I know for sure that we have a lot of experiences just like me.

As a fresh graduate I can tell that I've got a lot of experiences in my college years. A very nice, memorable and of course a very worthy experience. Now, that I'm already facing the real world which I know that I should really face it, I can tell that I'm not that ready and I have to be ready because this is really is it and I can't change the fact that I'm now facing the real world.

Now, that I'm already an employee in a prestigious pioneer company - a outbound call center I can tell that I'm absolutely facing the real world now because I have this job which I must always think that I'm no longer in school or I'm no longer a student that all I've got to do is to study all the lessons that bhh teacher had taught me because in a job you have to have that “diskarte” on what you're going to do to improve your work. And you also have to prove yourself that you can do something worthy that's related with your work itself. I, personally who has this first time job ever is really thankful because through this kind of job I've learned to adjust things properly and learned more to mingle a lot of people with different personalities that I honestly encountered. But, of course I have to face it in order to survive as well as enjoy on what I have right now. I admit that there were and there are a lot of adjustments to be made a lot of struggles but I have no regrets for these. You know why? Because through these adjustments I became who I am right now someone who can be more patient more practical and I have learned the most important lesson being a first time working lady that that is to know my purpose. The purpose of working and that is to be part of a company with a heart.

BPO call center

When I got here in Cebu, Philippines, I was amazed by people who are working in call centers despite the pressure, so I decided to apply due to higher salary, at first I was really nervous because I don't know anything about the industry, I tried to apply in one of the famous offshore outsourcing companies, but unfortunately I did not make it, instead I was discouraged. I was hoping that I will be hired in one of the call centers, I was determined because I needed money, and I was also responsible for my siblings, I got here in cebu and I have nothing in my pocket, so I decided to work as jewelry maker in one of the jewelry shops here. Luckily I have the skills to work in jewelry so I was able to support myself, during that time when I was still an applicant, during that time my brother was sick and all of my saving were used, but that doesn't stop my motivation even though I have nothing in my pocket.

I read an article about a call center in the Philippines which is expanding its office in cebu, so again I was hoping that this time I will be hired, with just the resume and the knowledge that I acquired in my previous interview I can answer better than what I did before so I was quite confident, but the fact is, confidence is not the only answer to an interview.

Be Stress-Free when working in an Outbound Call Center

If you just got a call center job then be happy. Working as a call center agent can be very rewarding but be careful. If you are switching to the night shift from a normal day job then it often takes time to adjust. Well, if you're living a life or if your lifestyle is same as the people who work on graveyard shifts at an outsourcing company, why not take a check out my helpful list.

Prepare yourself for some adjustments if it's your first time and if you're not used to shifting schedules, especially working on a graveyard shift. I knew, it will take much time to adjust but sooner or later you'll get used to it. Be sure to inform the people around you if you do have difficulty in adjusting. They could help you in giving out some suggestions that are best for you and for your health as well.

While at work, don't carry all the burdens, the aches, the problems, and the worries that you have because it may add you to be more stressful. Leave it behind! Don't bring it along to work because it will affect your performance when you're at work. If it's gonna be forever or it will take long, then leave it for the meantime

Don't pressure yourself of the daily quota, it will create fine lines on your face...wrinkles...Be positive! And ask help from your co-workers if you're in great need on how to meet your quota. Just do your best and perform very well!

Be enthusiastic! Have fun! Don't stick to the word “work”, because working is not merely earning money out of it, it's where you gain friends and memories also. Be happy! And don't be lazy, and don't be absent nor late. If inevitable, then try your very best.

Always smile, because if you do it will reflect your aura of the day. So, you'll end up your day with a smile and not with a haggard face...i think so. You can even share laughters together with your co-workers.

And the best ways are to have enough rest/sleep, eat a balanced-diet, no smoking or drinking sessions, and take your vitamins, and drink 8-10 glasses of water daily and have a regular exercise.

In addition to, go to a place wherein it's very spacious or to a place that is mountainous, there, that is where you can distress yourself...shout out loud!!! Let go all of the negative emotions that you feel. After this, I assure you that you'll feel great! Why not give it a try?

Inbound Call Centers in the Philippines

Remember when you used to have a problem at the bank and you would go and talk to the teller. Then she would bet the manager and they would work everything thing out right there in font of you. How things have changed. Now when I have a problem at the bank the teller points me to a little phone at the side where I work it out with a person I will never see and have no idea where she is. So welcome to the age of the inbound call center for customer service.

Basically banks started using inbound call centers in the 1980’s to try and streamline the customer service process. The local branches could concentrate on things like creating new business and they pushed the customer service questions to rooms full of people in far off places.

As the business model progressed, the banks looked for even more ways to save money so they began to use offshore call centers in places where there is a large labor force of English speakers. Indian and the Philippines are the two most popular destinations for US businesses to use for their customer service call centers. Both countries have a lower cost of living than the US and both have the infrastructure to support the setup and operation of large call centers. Call centers in the Philippines have become popular with business in the US because the Filipino’s share a great deal of culture with citizens of the US.
